Sequestrada is based on real life events and incorporates the experiences of the indigenous non-actors featured. As the Belo Monte dam is completed in the Western Amazon, life there will never be the same again. This story captures that moment and the lives that have been irrevocably changed.
ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS
Sabrina McCormick, PhD, (producer, co-writer/co-director) both conducts climate research and produces climate films. Her award-winning short scripted films Fracktured (Katrina Lenk) and A Good Egg (Marsha Stephanie Blake), and documentary films such as No Family History, After the Cap, and two segments of the Emmy Award-winning The Years of Living Dangerously (producer of episodes with Matt Damon and Michael C. Hall), explore the intimate interconnections between our lives and environment. Sabrina was a Lead Author on the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and advisor for the Obama White House on climate issues.
Soopum Sohn (co-writer, co-director) is a Korean-American writer/director and cinematographer whose short and feature-length works have been presented at the Cannes Film Festival, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Busan International Film Festival. His short film "Island to Island" was the recipient of a Student Academy Award. His latest film, “Sequestrada,” co-directed and written with Sabrina McCormick, premiered in April at the IXth Beijing International Film Festival. He teaches film as an associate professor at Long Island University.
